“ There are many good restaurants in New York city, but few that are like Bayon. The ownership and atmosphere at Bayon are unparalleled. Lots of Asian restaurants in New York are now owned by restaurant groups, but Bayon is owned and operated by their very own head chef. Minh has roots in Cambodia but has spent time growing up in Thailand and Vietnam, which makes his cuisine a one of a kind gem. Minh was also thrilled to speak Khmer and Vietnamese with our table. You can be sure you’ll enjoy a flavorful and authentic evening at Bayon. The Prahok was the perfect tang and fermentation. The nem nuong is a refreshing Cambodian flair on a Vietnamese dish (more savory). The desserts was yummy too! We got the sago and the pudding. Thanks for a great evening! ”
“ All of the staff goes out of their way to be kind and courteous. They want to make sure anyone with a disability is also able to visit, so they have a doorbell and very helpful staff if you're in a wheelchair. If you're new to Cambodian food, the staff gives you a small history about Cambodia and the dishes. There was a calm atmosphere. The interior was gorgeous. There was an airiness to the very flavorful food. ”
“ I had never had Cambodian food in my life and I must say that I wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious with a flavor profile that went into my body and brought my soul up to see the light. One of the best Asian food restaurants in the city, so you don't have to go to Queens to have an authentic experience. So come to the UES and be ready to be blown out of the water. ”
“ Good for walk-ins. Seafood was very fresh! We could tell from the texture of the fish steak and scallops. Duck was very tender with a lot of flavors. I talked with the owner and she said that her husband, the chef, fused his French cuisine experience into the dishes. I haven’t been to Cambodia but these were really delicious to me. ”
“ This is such a great addition to the neighborhood and a hidden gem! Cozy decor and great service. We were able to slip in early, but you should probably make a reservation. It’s been a while since my visits to Cambodia, but the food all tasted very authentic and really, really good! The duck salad was good, fish cakes wonderful, but the grilled amok next level delicious. So happy to have a place like this in the neighborhood! ”
“ Excellent! We ordered out and the food feeling really authentic reminded us of our backpacking trip to Cambodia many years ago. The cumin lamb dumplings were a great start but I particularly loved the grilled amok in a fantastically flavorful red curry sauce with delicately sweet coconut rice to break the spice. Very tender fish with amazingly juicy scallops and shrimp inside. Expectations were high and Baton did not disappoint. Congratulations to the chef! ”
“ We came here on a Saturday afternoon and enjoyed Cambodian food for the first time. Everything was great! The owner was so considerate; she showed us how to savor each dish as well as what’s special about each ingredient. It was during the off-peak hour so we were also able to see the chef working in the kitchen. The backyard was perfect for New York’s early fall weather. Thank you for the amazing experience! ”
“ A true hidden gem! The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and genuinely helpful. The food was not only delicious but served in incredibly generous portions. The ambiance struck the perfect balance of cozy and lively, creating a great vibe all around. We walked in on a Friday night without a reservation and were lucky enough to be seated right away. It was an incredible value for the price. We each took home half our entrees, and the dessert was so large we struggled to finish it (something that never happens to me!) I’ll absolutely be back—this place is versatile enough for out-of-town visitors, a date night, or a fun dinner with friends. I think I heard it’s the only Cambodian spot in Manhattan, so it’s definitely worth trying. I could see this restaurant getting a lot more popular as it gets the recognition it deserves. ”
